Big Isle stars in pilot for new PBS cooking series

Advertiser Staff

"Flavor Hunting" is the working title for a proposed new PBS cooking series that is now shooting 13 pilot segments around the world.

On the Big Island in late January, they joined with three local video professionals, including Lynn Beittel of Visionary Video in South Kona, to shoot segments at Volcano Island Honey in Hamakua, at Mera Pharmaceuticals in Kona (makers of Kona Sea Salt) and, with farmer and agricultural activist Ken Love, at a local farmers' market.
Priebe, a former restaurateur and an enthusiastic musician, will pull music into the show, according to WTTW vice president of program development Fran Harth.
On each segment, Priebe will gather up exceptional local ingredients and cook with them — always outdoors, Beittel said. He used honey and salt to make a grilled Black Lava Steak and a Lomi Lomi Pizza.
No word on when the show will kick off.
