Honolulu Fire Department rescue crews will resume their search tomorrow morning for a man who apparently fell while hiking in Makaha Valley.

The search for the man began at about 5:45 p.m. when his hiking companion called 911 to report that his friend had fallen over a ledge. The caller estimated that his friend fell about 200 feet, said Capt. Earle Kealoha, HFD spokesman.
Rescue crews were able to find the caller, who was examined by ambulance personnel. The man then led firefighters back up the hillside near the Makaha Valley Towers condominiums to search for his friend.
Crews searched by air and on the ground for more than four hours, but could not find the man. Kealoha said the Air One helicopter and rescuers were hampered by thick clouds and rain.
Kealoha said the search will resume at first light.
“Going by the caller, there’s definitely someone out there,” Kealoha said. “What his condition is right now, we’re not sure. But due to safety and the weather conditions, we’re going to have to call it off for tonight.”
