The Mighty Mo has had a makeover, and the public is invited today to see the improvements. The event is in appreciation of the members and volunteers who helped refurbish the Battleship Missouri Memorial.
The USS Missouri recently returned from drydock at the Pearl Harbor shipyard, where it was returned to ship-shape over 12 weeks with $18 million worth of maintenance and preservation work.
Free admission and free tours of the battleship — aboard which imperial Japan surrendered in World War II — will be offered to kama'āina and military from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. At 11:30 a.m., approximately 100 volunteers and Friends of the Mighty Mo members will be honored by Gov. Linda Lingle, Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard commander Capt. Gregory R. Thomas and Battleship Missouri Memorial president and CEO Michael Carr.
