Alaska visitor dies after Hanalei Beach rescue
A 70-year-old visitor from Alaska died Sunday on Kaua'i after he was pulled from the water at Hanalei Beach.
According to a preliminary report, the Juneau resident was wading in the water about 20 feet from shore about 11:50 a.m. when a possible medical condition caused him to collapse.
The man's grandson had turned away for a few minutes to get a bodyboard and by the time he reached his grandfather, the man was face-down in the water.
Lifeguards brought the man to shore and performed CPR until firefighters from the Hanalei station arrived and took over CPR before turning him over to paramedics.
