Police have arrested a 23-year-old homeless man as a suspect in the two recent bank robberies on O'ahu.
Michael Schturmgeist was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of first-degree robbery in connection with Monday's 9:30 a.m. holdup of Central Pacific Bank's Makiki branch.
Schturmgeist also was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery in connection with the Feb. 16 robbery of the First Hawaiian Bank branch on Ward Avenue.
Police said an anonymous informant gave them the name of a possible suspect in the two cases and Schturmgeist was subsequently arrested.
With Schturmgeist's arrest, police now have two suspects who are believed responsible for five of the seven bank robberies on O'ahu this year.
Ronald Manning, 49, was arrested in January in connection with three of the robberies.
When Schturmgeist was arrested as a suspect in the two bank holdups, he was already in the cellblock at police headquarters on Beretania Street as a suspect in the robbery of a 22-year-old man. The victim in that case told police he was walking near Ala Moana Center when a stranger approached and pushed him to the ground, causing him to hit the back of his head. The attacker took money from the victim's pocket and ran.
