Pat Sajak, Joe Moore team up for 'Boys in Autumn'
By Wayne Harada
Pat Sajak and Joe Moore are gearing up for long-distance rehearsals when they team up in Bernard Sabath's "The Boys in Autumn" June 24-27 at the Hawai'i Theatre, a fundraiser for the theater. They'll play Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn, respectively — roles originated on Broadway by John Collum and George C. Scott and in a West Coast run by Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. "Pat and I had been looking for a quality play since 2004 when we last appeared on stage together," said Moore, the KHON2 news anchor. "When I came across this drama, loaded with lots of laughs, we both committed to it right away." Said Sajak, the "Wheel of Fortune" host: "It's a real acting challenge. Thank God we'll have talented director Glenn Cannon to guide us."...
TUBE TALK: Local actor Stan Egi, who's done stage work here, appears in CBS' "Numb3rs" season finale at 9 p.m. Friday on KGMB9. He plays Ralph Morris, a neighborhood watch leader who becomes a vigilante suspect in the shooting deaths of a pair of drug dealers. "The cool thing is that it's not an Asian-specific role; I got hired on the basis of being able to portray this particular character," said Egi. ...
"Dancing With the Stars," premiering March 22 on KITV4, will have an Island presence in Nicole Scherzinger, of The Pussycat Dolls, who joins Buzz Aldrin, Pamela Anderson, Shannen Doherty, Aiden Turner, Evan Lysacek, Kate Gosselin, Erin Andrews, Niecy Nash, Chad Ochocinco and Jake Pavelka. ...
Grace Park is the latest addition to the "Hawaii Five-0" pilot. The "Battle Galactica" star will play Kono Kalakaua, a surfing academy recruit and niece of squad member Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim). ...
OSCARCAST: The envelope, please. ...
Here's how I see the outcome of tonight's Academy Awards on KITV4:
• Best picture: "Avatar," the James Cameron high-tech futuristic 3-D epic laden with Titanic-sized vistas.
• Best director: Kathryn Bigelow, for "The Hurt Locker." Drama prevails since she's the ex of the aforementioned Cameron.
• Best actor: Jeff Bridges, for "Crazy Heart." The pic has been this year's "The Wrestler," and Bridges is superb as the country singer looking to ignite phase two of his career.
• Best supporting actor: Christoph Waltz, for "Inglourious Basterds." An industry fave.
• Best actress: Meryl Streep, for "Julie & Julia." If she wins, she'll stun the highly favored Sandra Bullock of "The Blind Side." Bon app tit!
• Best supporting actress: Mo'Nique, for "Precious." Nasty plays well.
THE LOCAL ANGLE: Lynn Nakamoto as Connie Wong, in "A Chorus Line" at Army Community Theatre, did the show on crutches last weekend; she sang and talked, but couldn't dance because of an ankle injury. So watch when you say "break a leg." By the way, "Chorus" rocks — lots of vigor and laughs. And Chris Villa-senor as the "pony" Paul San Marco is perfection. ...
Jordan Segundo again is doing "American Idol" commentary for KHON2 on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings through March 11, but will be Wednesdays-only starting March 17 through the May finale. Segundo, along with Justin Cruz and John Katahira, earned outstanding young person awards from the Hawaii Jaycees. ...
In and out of town: Queen Latifah, the singer-actress, and Conan O'Brien, the dethroned "Tonight Show" host ...
And that's Show Biz. ...
