No. 1 UW edges 'Bows in 8th, 1-0

Jenn Salling scored the go-ahead run on an infield error in the top of the eighth inning as No. 1 Washington beat Hawai'i, 1-0, in the second day of the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Salling was placed at second to start the eighth and advanced to third on a fly out to centerfield. After a ground out, Morgan Stuart reached on an error by the Hawai'i shortstop that allowed Salling to score.
Reigning National Player of the Year Danielle Lawrie struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth for Washington (15-1), the defending NCAA champs. She fired a four-hitter with 15 strikeouts.
In the first game, Kaia Parnaby tossed a one-hitter and Kanani Pu'u-Warren, Jessica Iwata and Traci Yoshikawa each homered as Hawai'i beat East Carolina, 10-0, in a mercy-rule, five-inning game.
Parnaby, a freshman left-hander, walked one and struck out four to earn her third shutout of the season.
The 'Bows (11-7) amassed 11 hits with four 'Bows getting multiple hits. Pu'u-Warren and Yoshikawa each hit three-run homers.
Iwata, Melissa Gonzalez, Yoshikawa, and Alexandra Aguirre all went 2 for 3.
