KAPALUA, Hawaii — The owner of a house destroyed in a suspicious fire on Maui is estimating the loss at around $10 million.
Fire officials didn’t have an estimate for the loss from the fire that erupted Saturday night and was extinguished early Sunday. Police have opened an investigation, saying the cause of the fire was suspicious.
Owner Greg Brown said the 14,000-square-foot house in the gated Honolua Ridge subdivision had six bedrooms, a theater, a game room and a five-car garage.
At the time of the fire, Brown was vacationing in Colorado with his children and his fiancee, Julie Mitchell.
In February, Brown and Mitchell announced plans to establish an organization to expose children to farm animals while also providing free equine therapy to disabled children.
