Hawaii surfing legends to be honored today at Legislature

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Legislature is honoring surfing legends Duke Kahanamoku, Eddie Aikau and Rell Sunn posthumously.
Both the state House and Senate are recognizing Polynesian tribal surfers in back-to-back sessions Tuesday.
Lawmakers are also lauding surfing greats including Clyde Aikau, Ben Aipa, Mitchell Alapa, Derek Ho and Richard “Buffalo” Kalolookalani Keaulana
Honorees include world surfing champions, surfing instructors, surfboard shapers and Surf Hall of Famers.
Sen. Brickwood Galuteria says these surfing icons have paved the way for the sport to spread across the world.
