While the Browns’ trade for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Seneca Wallace became official Wednesday, the team prepared for a reported visit on Thursday by former Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme, according to multiple Internet sites.

Delhomme, 35 and an 11-year veteran, was cut a week ago after seven seasons with the Panthers. The Panthers still owe him more than $12.5 million in guaranteed money, but believe his skills began to erode in the 2008 playoffs. In 2009, Delhomme threw eight touchdown passes with 18 interceptions and went 4-7 as a starter before breaking a finger on his throwing hand.
Delhomme led the Panthers to the Super Bowl in his first season as a starter in 2003, to the NFC Championship Game in 2005 (losing to then-coach Mike Holmgren’s Seahawks) and to a divisional playoff appearance in 2008. He could serve as a mentor to the Browns’ Brady Quinn, if Quinn is not traded, or if the team selects a quarterback in the April 22-24 draft.
Wallace passed his physical to complete Monday’s trade with Seahawks. According to local WKYC, the Browns gave up a seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft for Wallace, which could become a sixth-rounder based on his performance.
