1 dead after Waianae traffic accident
A 23-year-old Wai'anae man was killed this afternoon when the truck he was driving struck a utility pole on Wai'anae Valley Road.
According to police, the truck was headed south at a high rate of speed when it veered to the right and struck the pole about one-tenth of a mile from Plantation Road.
The driver was wearing a seat belt and the vehicles air bags did deploy.
The crash occurred at 1:22 p.m. in clear conditions and in light traffic. No other vehicles were involved, according to police.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:05 p.m.
Police said speed was a factor. It is not yet known if alcohol was also a factor.
