Feed My Sheep gift will pay for 3 food delivery trucks
An anonymous donor has provided $100,000 to Feed My Sheep for the purchase of three trucks to deliver food to the hungry at six weekly distributions, the Maui News reported.
Joyce Kawakami, the founder of Feed My Sheep, said the trucks, the 250 Feed My Sheep volunteers and the cooperation of the Maui Food Bank will help achieve the goal of making Maui a hunger-free zone.
Last year, Feed My Sheep gave food to 8,000 people, often weekly. Recently, the number asking for help has grown at the rate of about 50 per week.
Trucks need to be fed as well, with gasoline, so Feed My Sheep also needs to raise hundreds of dollars a week in cash.
"To maintain this vital work and keep the people of Maui hunger-free, it is imperative that food and monetary contributions continue to come in, as well as grow, as the numbers of those needing food subsistence has grown," Kawakami said.
