Maryknoll defeated Warriors for 1st win
Advertiser Staff
Maryknoll defeated Kamehameha, 8-6, last Saturday at Ala Wai for its first victory of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball season.
An incorrect Headline 1 in yesterday's Advertiser stated that Kamehameha defeated Maryknoll. Kamehameha actually beat Pac-Five, not Maryknoll, on Tuesday.
Days earlier, Maryknoll pulled off an upset over Kamehameha, relying on seven Warrior errors, two wild pitches and some clutch hitting to score six unearned runs.
Maryknoll had back-to-back, three-run innings fueled by two Warrior errors in each inning.
Trailing 3-2, Maryknoll scored three in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-3 lead. Tyler Todd's two-run single highlighted the inning.
Kamehameha rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth for a 6-5 lead only to see Maryknoll score three in the bottom half. Kaelen Hirashiki stole two bases in the inning, including home to tie the game at 6. Maryknoll's go-ahead runs were scored on an error and wild pitch.
Todd pitched the final two innings for the victory.
Trevor Saiki batted 3 for 4, and Kyle Hirata had two hits and three runs scored for the Spartans.
