The Mililani girls soccer program has a long tradition of producing talented players, and you can add senior forward Mari Miyashiro to its list of O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West Players of the Year.

"Mari is an extremely talented, technical player, but I think one of her strengths is her ability to involve her teammates in the play and raise everyone's level," said Mililani coach Ray Akiona, who called her "gifted."

Miyashiro scored 13 goals, scoring at least once against every team in the Red West Division.

The Trojans placed five others on the 12-member first team. Up top, freshman T.J. Reyno burst on the scene with a division-high 16 goals. In the midfield, Sasha Moscatello was a pick after scoring nine goals, and defenders Chelsea Miyake and Ashley Deguchi were selected, along with goalkeeper Rosie Nakata.

Kapolei, Pearl City and 'Aiea each had two players selected. The Hurricanes were represented by midfielder Kristina Behrens and defender Hailey Berg, the Chargers by midfielder Kristy Iwahashi and defender Jillian Seminara, and Nā Ali'i by forward Natalie Fukuhara and midfielder Marissa Fukuhara.

Miyashiro, Behrens and Miyake are repeat first-team selections. Nakata, Natalie Fukuhara, Iwahashi and Moscatello were second-team picks last season.

Akiona was named the Coach of the Year after the Trojans swept through the division (12-0-0), outscoring opponents 56-2.
