Kumu hula Rae Fonseca dies following performance at Lanikuhonua

Renowned Big Island kumu hula Rae Fonseca died this afternoon following a performance at the Lei 'O Lanikuhonua Hula Festival at Ko Olina.
Fonseca, 56, was the founder of Hula Halau 'O Kahikilaulani, which has won numerous honors at the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival and other prestigious events.
According to one witness, Fonseca completed his performance and was watching from off-stage when he collapsed.
Emergency Medical Services personnel transported Fonseca in critical condition to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
