Hilo man sentenced to prison in theft case

A 50-year-old Hilo man was sentenced to one year in prison after he pleaded no contest to fraudulently obtaining more than $72,000 in government assistance.

Barry Ogline, also known as James Jancuk, had asked Circuit Judge Glenn Hara to sentence him to house arrest. But Hara on March 18 sentenced Ogline to a year in prison as a condition of his five years probation and also ordered him to pay $72,357 in restitution.
Ogline pleaded no contest to one count of first-degree theft. He was accused of stealing the identity of another man to obtain $23,617 in federal Supplemental Security Income and $48,740 in public assistance benefits between 2001 and 2008.
Also on the Big Island:
• Michelle Denig, 43, pleaded no contest to one count of second-degree theft. Denig was charged with fraudulently obtaining thousands of dollars in public assistance benefits between 2003 and 2009. She will be sentenced on May 10.
• Ann Butterfield, 43, pleaded no contest to first-degree theft and will be sentenced on May 18. She is accused of fraudulently obtaining $8,700 in public assistance.
• Raynette Rosa, 50, was found guilty of second-degree theft and will be sentenced on April 29. She was charged with fraudulently obtaining $19,000 in public assistance benefits.
