Family members identified the 49-year-old man involved in an attempted murder-suicide this morning at Pali Lanes in Kailua as Harlan Bruce Kamekona.

Police said the man entered the bowling alley around 9 a.m. and became involved in an argument with a 38-year-old woman whose identity has not been released. Police said gunshots were fired and Kamekona then stabbed the woman before fatally stabbing himself.
The victim was last reported in critical condition.
Kamekona was convicted of federal narcotics trafficking charges in 2000 in a case that involved shipments of methamphetamine to Guam. He was released from prison in 2005 and was due to complete a period of supervised release — the federal version of parole — in June of this year, according to court records.
However, his lawyer, Michael Green, said Kamekona recently completed his sentence and was no longer subject to federal supervision.
“I’m just shocked by this,” Green said.
Kamekona was a former longtime member of the Teamsters Union production unit, which supplies drivers to film and television productions shot in Hawaii.
