State picks Texas firm to tabulate May special election

The state Office of Elections has chosen a Texas company to supply ballot counting machines for the May 22 special election to fill a vacant U.S. House seat.
Chief Elections Officer Scott Nago says Hart InterCivic of Austin has signed a $389,000 contract to provide about 350,000 ballots and envelopes, as well as electronic voting machines and counters for the all-mail special election.
Voters should receive special election ballots by mail in late April or early May, and they will be due back by May 22. Walk-in voting stations only will be provided at Honolulu City Hall.
Hart also will similarly supply the state for regular primary and general elections later this year, and during the next six years under a separate $11 million contract.
