Advertiser Staff and News Services
Honolulu's Michelle Wie bogeyed three of her last six holes to finish at even-par 72 yesterday at the inaugural Kia Classic at Carlsbad, Calif.
Wie, seeking her second win as pro in the LPGA Tour's first event of the year on U.S. soil, is six strokes off the lead in a 13-way tie for 24th.
Na On Min shot a bogey-free 66 to take a one-stroke lead on Na Yeon Choi.
Wie, a Punahou School alum who now attends Stanford, was 1 under on the front nine with a bogey on the par-5 No. 3 and birdies on Nos. 4 and 6, both par-4s. She went to 2 under with a birdie on the par-5 No. 11, before suffering bogeys on Nos. 13 and 14 (both par-4s) and the par-3 No. 16. Wie got back to even par with a birdie on the par-4 No. 17.
"I think I did pretty well. I feel like I hit the ball pretty good," Wie said. "I want my irons to be a little closer tomorrow. It was just hard putting here this afternoon. A couple of these putts were just going 10 different directions. I think there's a lot of improvement to be done for tomorrow, but hopefully I'll shoot a really low score."
