HPU softball takes two at Mizuno tourney

The Hawai'i Pacific softball team won both its pool-play games yesterday to qualify for the championship round at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.
In the first game, Ashley Valine scattered eight hits over five innings , and Sherise Musquiz pitched two scoreless innings for the save in HPU's 2-1 win over Sonoma State. The Sea Warriors' Maile Kim homered in the first inning and had a sacrifice fly in the third.
In the second game, Musquiz pitched a four-hitter in HPU's 6-1 victory over Cal State East Bay. Mai Kalakau had a two-run double and Kozy Toriano scored twice for HPU.
HPU improved to 30-2.

Hilo goes 2 for 3: Hawai'i-Hilo won its first two pool-play games, but lost its final one at Turlock, Calif.
In the first game, Amber Waracka pitched a two-hitter in Hilo's 5-0 victory over Cal State Stanislaus.
In the second game, Sarah Weisskopf pitched a three-hitter and Aisha Sueda had an RBI groundout in a 1-0 win over Chico State.
In the third game, Vanessa Truan and Ashley Jackson combined on a three-hitter and San Francisco State scored all its runs in the first in a 3-0 victory over the Vulcans.
Hawai'i-Hilo is 25-11.
Chaminade goes 1 for 3: Chaminade won one and lost two in pool-play action at Turlock, Calif.
In the first game, Kasy'e Lalau pitched a six-hitter, and Brandi Sasaki and Shalin Yamaguchi homered in Chaminade's 4-0 victory over Humboldt State.
In the second game, Jennifer Arnold pitched a four-hitter in Cal State Stanislaus' 8-1 victory over Chaminade. The Silverswords scored on Chasity Senas' RBI single in the third.
In the third game, Marissa Ibarra pitched a four-hitter and San Francisco State scored the game's only run in the first inning in a 1-0 victory over Chaminade. The Silverswords' Kasy'e Lalau pitched a five-hitter.
Chaminade is 14-23.
BASEBALL
HILO SPLITS ON ROAD
Aaron Correa scattered nine hits in a complete-game performance as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Grand Canyon, 8-5, to earn a split of a doubleheader yesterday at Phoenix.
In the first game, Grand Canyon beat Hilo, 8-4.
Hilo's Keoni Manago had six hits in the doubleheader.
Hilo is 7-18 and 3-13; Grand Canyon is 20-17 and 11-9.

HAWAI'I WINS PAIR
The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team won both its matches at the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
In the first match, No. 5 Hawai'i beat No. 6 Arizona State, 9-5, behind four goals by Monika Eggens.
In the second match, Eggens scored three goals in Hawai'i's 12-6 win over Cal Baptist.
