NEW YORK — North Carolina coach Roy Williams is predicting Duke to bring a second straight national championship to Tobacco Road.
The Tar Heels won the title last season, but struggled to a 16-16 record and failed to make the NCAA tournament this year. They play Rhode Island on Tuesday night in the NIT semifinals.
Williams said there was “no question” in his mind that top-seeded Duke should be the favorite when it faces West Virginia in the Final Four on Saturday. The winner will play Michigan State or Butler for the championship on Monday.
Williams said his next favorite would be West Virginia, adding coach Bob Huggins would probably shed his gruff exterior and “cry just as much as Roy Williams did” if he wins his first national championship.
