LOS ANGELES — Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, a duo of Japanese architects praised for using everyday building materials to create ethereal structures with flowing, dreamlike interior spaces, have won the 2010 Pritz-ker Architecture Prize, the prize's jury announced yesterday.

CHINESE AUTOMAKER BUYS VOLVO FOR $1.8B

STOCKHOLM — The Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a privately run Chinese automaker, signed a binding deal yesterday to buy Ford Motor Co.'s Volvo Cars unit for $1.8 billion.

That gives Geely a European luxury car brand with a reputation for safety and quality at a time when China, which last year surpassed the U.S. as the world's largest car market, is eager to acquire foreign automotive brands to help it improve its technology and expand into overseas markets.

NEW IPAD PRE-ORDER SHIPMENTS DELAYED

NEW YORK — Apple Inc. yesterday moved back the shipping date for its iPad tablet computer to April 12 for customers who place pre-orders.

Those who ordered the tablet before yesterday will still receive it on April 3, when the iPad goes on sale in Apple stores. Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris declined to comment on why the company decided to push back the date for later pre-orders.
