CBKB: UTEP hires Tim Floyd as basketball coach

EL PASO, Texas — Former USC basketball coach and one time Texas-El Paso assistant Tim Floyd is headed back to Texas.
UTEP spokesman Jeff Darby says Floyd is the school's new men's basketball coach and will be introduced at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
Floyd left USC in 2009 amid allegations of recruiting violations involving O.J. Mayo. Floyd has denied any wrongdoing and has said he expects to be cleared in an ongoing NCAA investigation.
He was an assistant to UTEP's late coach Don Haskins from 1978-86 and has also coached at Idaho, New Orleans, Iowa State, the Chicago Bulls and the Hornets. He returned to college basketball in 2005 with USC, where he was 85-50.
