Judge dismisses challenge to city EIS on expanding Waimanalo Gulch landfill
A state judge earlier this month dismissed a challenge of the city's final environmental impact statement for expansion of the Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary landfill on the Leeward Coast.
A lawsuit questioning the validity of the EIS had been sought by Sen. Colleen Hanabusa, who lives in nearby Ko Olina and represents residents opposed to expansion.
The Land Use Commission last fall granted the city a three-year expansion when it had sought a seven-year period. The city is again petitioning for a longer period before the commission.
