The National Weather Service has issued a high-wind advisory for all islands in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow.

Trade winds will blow at a sustained 30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph, forecasters said.

A high-pressure system north of the state is bringing the strong trade winds. Winds should ease a bit on Thursday, but regain strength and be blustery through the weekend, the weather service said.

The weather service said drivers, especially those of vans and other high-profile vehicles, should use extra caution. It also said people should be prepared for falling branches and possible power outages.

Homeowners are advised to secure loose objects such as lawn furniture, umbrellas and other outdoor items.

In addition, a fire weather watch was in effect for leeward areas on all islands. The weather service said gusty trade winds combined with dry weather, low humidity and dry foliage is creating the potential for critical brush fire conditions.

The fire watch remains in effect until tomorrow evening.
