Man critically injured after running into path of a car
A 46-year-old Honolulu man was critically injured when he was struck by a car as he tried to cross Pali Highway yesterday afternoon.
The man was not in a crosswalk when a 2005 Toyota Camry hit him shortly before 1 p.m., police said. The victim was crossing from the west sidewalk toward the center median, about 160 feet north of Vineyard Boulevard, police said.
The car, driven by a 43-year-old woman, was traveling south when the man ran into the path of the vehicle, police said. The driver was not able to stop in time.
The man suffered head injuries and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. The driver was not injured.
Police closed Pali Highway's town-bound lanes from School Street to Vineyard for about two hours while they conducted an investigation.
