Kids tested their bike riding skills during a Bike Rodeo on Saturday, April 24 sponsored by King Auto Center. The young riders learned safe biking tips from Kauai Police Lt. Robert Gausepohl, viewed a safety video and had their bikes checked at an inspection station before heading out to ride through an eight-station obstacle course. The proper use of safety helmets was stressed.
The Bike Rodeo was also sponsored by State Farm Agent Darrellyn Lemke with assistance from East Kauai Lions Club volunteers.
In addition to the Bike rodeo, free child safety seat checks were provided by Certified Car Seat Technicians with the Kauai Police Department Traffic Safety Unit. Officers also provided Keiki IDs.
All participants were treated to free shave ice, hot dogs, juice and other treats. Madison Doo and Ikaika Rich were the lucky winners of two brand new bicycles presented at the event, which were donated by the East Kauai Lions Club and State Farm Agent Darrellyn Lemke.
