Heavyweights Scott Junk and Fabiano Scherner will be featured in the main event of tonight's Galaxy MMA: Worlds Collide card, but there are a couple of smaller fighters who could steal the spotlight.

Tyson Nam of Wahiawā and Keola Silva of Waialua will meet in the co-main event. They are the smallest fighters on the card — both made the 135-pound weight limit yesterday — but big things are expected.

"A lot of the local fans who follow the sport are talking about this fight," said Mark Pang, president of Galaxy MMA. "Both guys have solid reputations; it should be exciting."

Nam was considered a rising star in the Icon Sport organization from 2006-08. When that organization closed, Nam moved to Portland, Ore., to train at the well-known Team Quest gym.

"Most of the time I'm the smallest guy in the gym, so I get my (butt) kicked every day," Nam said. "But that's why I went up there — to work hard and get better."

Since moving to Oregon, Nam has won four consecutive fights, and now has a professional record of 8-2.

Silva is a physical education teacher and wrestling coach who had his first professional fight last November. Tonight will be his second.

"I had a lot of amateur fights," he said. "I actually wasn't looking to do any pro fights, but this opportunity came along and it sounded good."

Tonight will be Galaxy MMA's first event, so the winners could receive future opportunities to fight again for the organization.

"That would be a nice bonus," Silva said.

The main event fighters also made weight yesterday, although there was a size discrepancy. Junk weighed 249; Scherner was 264 (the limit is 265).
