PHILADELPHIA — Watching from the on-deck circle, Shane Victorino was caught up in the fervor like 45,000 Phillies fans.

Mets ace Johan Santana was a pitch away from improbably walking pitcher Jamie Moyer with the bases loaded. The ballpark suddenly sounded like all those big October games the Phillies have won the last three years.

"When he got it at 3-1, I was like, 'Please don't swing here, Jamie,' " Victorino said.

Moyer eventually drew the walk, and Victorino brought 'em all home.

Victorino hit a grand slam off Santana and Chase Utley had a two-run shot during Philadelphia's nine-run fourth inning, helping the Phillies pound the New York Mets, 11-5, last night.

"Sometimes, you love being in that situation," said Victorino, a St. Anthony alum.

Santana (3-2) allowed a career-worst 10 runs in 3 2/3 innings. The two-time AL Cy Young Award winner allowed four homers — and one crucial bases-loaded walk.

Holding a 5-3 lead in the fourth, Santana missed on a full-count pitch to Moyer with two out, forcing in a run. Victorino followed with his second career grand slam and Utley went deep two batters later. Nine straight batters reached in the inning.

Placido Polanco and Ryan Howard also homered for the Phillies, who won two of three against New York.

David Wright hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Rod Barajas added a two-run shot in the fourth, but Moyer (3-2) survived the shaky start to last six innings.

Raul Ibanez hit a two-out RBI single, Juan Castro singled and Carlos Ruiz walked before Moyer came to the plate in the fourth. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel decided to leave his starter in instead of calling for a pinch hitter.

Smart move.

Santana, who had walked only nine batters in his first five starts, walked Moyer on seven pitches.

"I was just trying to find a way to get on base," Moyer said. "He did me a favor and got behind 2-0."

Victorino made Santana pay with his fifth homer of the season — shades of Game 2 of the 2008 NL division series when Victorino hit a grand slam after pitcher Brett Myers worked a walk against Milwaukee's CC Sabathia.

"I guess you can say it was deja vu," Victorino said. "I didn't think about it going up there."

Chris Carpenter (4-0) pitched seven innings of two-hit ball and Albert Pujols broke it open with a three-run double in the seventh as host St. Louis beat Cincinnati to wrap up a 6-1 homestand. St. Louis took two of three for its seventh series win.

Host San Diego shut out Milwaukee for the third time in four games on a combined three-hitter by Jon Garland (3-2) and two relievers. San Diego won three of four in the series.

ROCKIES 4, GIANTS 1

Jhoulys Chacin (1-0) allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings for his first major league win, Melvin Mora hit a two-run single and Colorado avoided a three-game sweep by host San Francisco.

CUBS 10, DIAMONDBACKS 5

Alfonso Soriano hit a pair of two-run homers, Marlon Byrd also hit a two-run shot and host Chicago won the last three games of the series after dropping the opener against Arizona.

DODGERS 9, PIRATES 3

Andre Ethier homered twice with four RBIs, Blake DeWitt had his first four-hit game in the majors and James Loney added a pair of run-scoring hits as host Los Angeles beat Pittsburgh. The Dodgers won the four-game series, taking three games.

BRAVES 7, ASTROS 1

Jason Heyward and Melky Cabrera each drove in three runs and host Atlanta completed a three-game sweep that left Houston with a six-game losing streak.

MARLINS 9, NATIONALS 3

Hanley Ramirez drove in four runs with two homers, and host Florida took the rubber game against Washington to win a series for the first time in two weeks.

Wade Davis (3-1) beat Zack Greinke (0-3) in a scintillating pitchers' duel, and Evan Longoria homered in the fourth inning as host Tampa Bay beat Kansas City to split the four-game series.

Ty Wigginton doubled home the winning run in the 10th inning following a throwing error by Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon (1-2), giving host Baltimore its first three-game sweep of the Red Sox at home in 36 years.

Shaun Marcum (1-1) won for the first time since 2008, supported by home runs from Fred Lewis, Alex Gonzalez and Aaron Hill in host Toronto's victory over Oakland. Toronto won the four-game series, taking three games.
