West Maui brushfire still not contained
A West Maui brushfire that has burned 1,100 acres since Monday in the Olowalu area is still not contained and about 45 firefighters are expected to be monitoring the area throughout the day.
Last night, about 15 firefighters were monitoring the brushfire. Yesterday one firefighter was taken to the hospital after experiencing elevated vital signs and released shortly after.
Officials said yesterday the fire came within about 25 feet of a home under construction and firefighters worked hard to protect the structure from burning and prevent the fire from advancing further into the residential area.
No damage to structures have been reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
