Dueling fundraiser slated for Sacred Hearts, St. Louis schools

Advertiser Staff

Saint Louis School and Sacred Hearts Academy will hold a fundraising event this weekend at Barnes & Noble in Kahala Mall.

The schools will collect up to 20 percent of the proceeds from of all Barnes & Noble purchases — books, CDs, DVDs and cafe merchandise — during the three-day competition, which gets under way tomorrow. Mention Saint Louis School or Sacred Hearts Academy when checking out. Online purchases count, too. Check school websites for school-credit codes. Students will be on hand to gift wrap Mother's Day purchases for free.

In addition, the author of "A Prophecy Fulfilled," Lance Tominaga, will hold a book-signing session 1-3 p.m. Saturday in the store. Tominaga's book details the life story of Clarence T.C. Ching, whose foundation has been instrumental in supporting various schools in Hawaii and nonprofits. Also, Ray Tam will talk about his uncle Ching, offering insight on the life of a sickly young boy who has achieved business success and gives back his family and community.

In the "Keiki Corner," Sacred Hearts Principal Betty White, Saint Louis President Walter Kirimitsu and Principal Pat Hamamoto will read favorite children's stories..

Following the weekend fundraiser, the sale tallies will be announced in front of both student bodies. And a top official the school that raised less money (White or Kirimitsu) will put on the athletic jersey of the winning school. For more information, visit www.bookshawaii.net/ProphecyFundraiser.
