One of the Islands' rising reggae bands is making a video, and you can be a part of it.

The Green Band's debut album, "The Green," topped 10,000 in sales last week and hit No. 3 on the Billboard reggae album chart. Nearly all sales so far have been through iTunes and within the state.

It's now time to go national, said Cassie Mead of SHD Records Hawaii LLC.

"We started our label about a year ago out of Kahala, and they've been our top-selling artist from the start," Mead said. "They toured on the Mainland with Anuhea earlier this year, and they were really well-received. A lot of places they toured have asked them back. It's an exciting time for them."

The promotional video will be part of a media blitz that includes a June 11 national CD release party at Pipeline Café , followed by a tour across the Islands and a Mainland tour.

Details of the shoot aren't being released, except that Jay Hanamura will direct it. To be in the video, write to the band at greenpromotions@gmail.com, and in no more than 100 words, tell them why you should be chosen. The winner will be announced Monday. Shooting begins May 17. Ten runners-up will receive signed merchandise and VIP tickets to an upcoming show (to be determined) in Hawai'i.

The inaugural Academy of Creative Media awards ceremony is at 6:30 tonight at the Art Auditorium at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. ACM held its first student films showcase last weekend. Clips from the winning films will be shown at the banquet.

Through May 26 the Honolulu Academy of Arts' Doris Duke Theatre is holding a festival of films by indigenous Hawaiian filmmakers. Themes include environmentalism, sovereignty, hula and identity. Screening information is at www.honoluluacademy.org.

'Iolani School students are hosting Camp Darfur, an interactive educational exhibit, on their campus from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon tomorrow. The mock refugee camp is to bring attention to the ongoing genocide in Darfur. The idea to hold it came after 'Iolani ninth-graders entered a video about Darfur in the Olelo Youth Xchange Video Competition earlier this year.
