Top seeds Jared Spiker of Kalani and Sayo Tsukumoto of Kealakehe yesterday advanced to the singles finals of the Carlsmith Ball State High School Tennis Championships at Holua Tennis Center and Outrigger Keahou Resort on the Big Island.

Spiker, the defending boys champion, will play second seed Matthew Westmoreland of Island Pacific in today's final.

Spiker defeated fifth seed Chas Okamoto of Kapa'a, 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (6), in the semifinals, while Westmoreland eliminated No. 4 Robin Kiyabu of Punahou, 6-0, 6-3.

Tsukumoto will face second seed Sarah Kukino of Kaua'i in the girls singles final.

Tsukumoto defeated fourth seed Karlene Pang of Hawai'i Baptist, 6-1, 6-1, in the semifinals, while Kukino defeated third seed Kelsey Daguio of Sacred Hearts, 6-3, 6-4.

In the boys doubles, third seed Brandon Lee and Erik Pang of Punahou defeated top-seeded Paul Okuda and Travis Yoshimoto, also of Punahou, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (3), to reach the final. Lee and Pang will play fourth seed Kallen Mizuguchi and Kaito Mizutani of Waiākea.

In the girls doubles final, top seed and defending champions Jennifer Laws and Ashley Nakaoka of Punahou will face second seed Bobbi Oshiro and Kristen Poei of 'Iolani.

Punahou's boys and girls are the defending team champions.
