COLOGNE, Germany — The United States was upset by Denmark at the hockey world championships, beaten 2-1 on Monday for its second straight overtime loss.

Stefan Lassen scored the winner off his own rebound for Denmark.

The Americans lost by the same score to Germany and must beat Finland in the last group game to reach the next round.

Lassen's wrist shot was stopped by goaltender Scott Clemmensen, but the defenseman tapped in the rebound 2:04 into the extra period.

"Certainly it's not where we want to be," U.S. coach Scott Gordon said. "We are just not generating enough offense. We are just making too many turnovers and that isn't allowing us to set up our fore-checking."

Denmark, which beat Finland in its first game, took the lead 8:52 into the second period on a power-play goal by Lars Eller. Keith Yandle answered for the Americans three minutes later.

Patrick Galbraith had 30 saves for Denmark, which clinched a spot in the next round.

Also, Switzerland reached the second round with a 3-0 victory over Italy in Group B. Later, Germany played Finland in Group D and Canada faced Latvia in Group B.
