Man admitted to beating cabbie, court documents show

Advertiser Staff

Court documents say 18-year-old Michael Robles admitted to police that he and a 17-year-old juvenile took part in the fatal beating of a taxi driver in Waipahu.

Robles, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Charlys Tang, is scheduled to be arraigned this morning.

Tang, 41, died May 1 after being found beaten and bleeding in a shopping center parking lot.

The documents say that after Robles was arrested May 7, he waived his constitutional rights and voluntarily provided a statement to police.

Robles told police he and the 17-year-old got into a taxi cab in Waikiki in the early-morning hours of May 1.

He said they rode to Waipahu and that prior to exiting the cab, the juvenile got into an argument with the driver. Robles said he and the 17-year-old then left the cab, at which time the teen struck the driver and knocked him to the ground.

Robles said he kicked the driver numerous times and the juvenile kicked and punched the man numerous times.

Robles said the driver was bleeding profusely from the face and head, and that he and the juvenile then fled.
