In a meeting of two O'ahu Interscholastic Association softball powers and unlikely foes in the first round of the DataHouse Division I State Championships, Campbell routed Roosevelt, 12-0, last night at Rainbow Wahine Stadium.
The game was shortened to six innings due to the 10-run rule.
The Sabers improved to 15-1 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 2 seed and Interscholastic League of Honolulu champ Mid-Pacific (13-2) in today's 7 p.m. feature quarterfinal.
Campbell won the OIA's Red Conference Western Division and appeared to be the league favorite entering the postseason, but were stunned with an upset loss to Castle in the OIA semifinals on April 30.
"We knew we had to bring our 'A' game tonight, because we learned that if you don't come to play, you can lose," said Sabers ace Katie Manumā, a senior right-hander who tossed a two-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks last night. "We want to leave everything on the field and have no regrets; play every game like it's our last."
Campbell wasted little time in getting started, jumping on Rough Riders ace Lianna Bajarin for four runs off four hits and an error in the top of the first inning. Manumā and Nicole Arata hit RBI doubles, and Taylor Rosa-Ramon added a run-scoring single. The Sabers added single runs in the second and fourth off two errors and a wild pitch to make it 6-0, then went ahead 8-0 in the fifth on Brianne Silva-Kapihe's two-run single.
