Hawai'i Pacific senior Sherise Musquiz was named Pitcher of the Year and three other Sea Warriors were named first team on the All-Pacific West Conference softball squad.

Joining four-time first-teamer Musquiz from HPU were senior outfielder Ciera Senas, junior catcher Kozy Toriano (named as utility player) and sophomore Maile Kim (designated player). HPU utility player Nicole Morrow was named Freshman of the Year and Bryan Nakasone was named Coach of the Year.

Senior pitcher Amber Waracka and junior Christina Pedroza, both of UH-Hilo, also were named to the first team.

HPU's Casey Sugihara, Toriano (catcher) and Ashley Valine, UH-Hilo's Amanda Tellez and Siera Green, and Chaminade's Brandi Sasaki were named to the second team.

Musquiz earned her second Pitcher of the Year honor. She amassed a 25-1 record with an 0.85 ERA in 157 1/3 innings. She had eight shutouts.

Morrow hit .340 in 44 games and had a .515 slugging percentage and .412 on-base average.

Nakasone repeated as Coach of the Year after leading the Sea Warriors to the PacWest Championship and the top seed in the NCAA II West Region Tournament.

TENNIS

HPU, BYUH OUSTED

Abilene Christian swept the three doubles matches and won at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles to beat Hawai'i Pacific, 5-4, yesterday in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis National Tournament at Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The Sea Warriors, who finished the season 22-4, scored on singles victories by Daniel Luedi, Dominic Mclusky, Sebastian Bader and Anton Samuilau.

Also yesterday, 11th-ranked Concordia (N.Y.) eliminated 29th-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 5-0.

The Seasiders, who finished 19-4, lost all three doubles points and Nos. 5 and 6 singles, with the remaining singles matches left unfinished.

UH'S BALENTINE 4TH

Hawai'i freshman Samantha Balentine was fourth in the heptathlon after the first day of the Western Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships in Ruston, La.

Balentine earned a personal-best 3,003 points in the first four events — 163 points better than her previous high.

She won the high jump (5 feet 8) and had personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles (15.27), where she was seventh, and shot put (36-4), where she finished fifth. She was eighth in the 200 (27.07).

Idaho's Ulrike Hartz leads with 3,263 points.

The final three events — long jump, javelin and 800 meters — will be today.
