Honolulu police are investigating the death of a man who was found hanging Thursday morning in a cell at the Oahu Community Correctional Center.

The man, 48, was a pre-trial detainee, police said.

A correctional officer who was performing a morning head count found the man hanging from an air vent about 4:15 a.m.

City paramedics were called to the scene, but efforts to revive the man failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, police said.
