Police were investigating the death of a man who was found hanging yesterday morning in a cell at O'ahu Community Correctional Center.

The man, 48, was being held awaiting trial, police said.

A correctional officer who was performing a morning head count found the man hanging from an air vent about 4:15 a.m.

City paramedics were called to the scene, but efforts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

There were no apparent signs of foul play, police said.
