Marine enters plea in fatal crash

Advertiser Staff

A 21-year-old Kāne'ohe Marine involved in a fatal 2008 vehicle collision has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor negligent homicide.

Eric Wycklendt is deploying to Afghanistan and will be sentenced in the case early next year.

Wycklendt was driving a 7-ton military truck on Kamehameha Highway in Hau'ula on Oct. 23, 2008, returning to Marine Corps Base Hawai'i from the Kahuku Training Area. Shortly before 2:30 p.m., he veered across a solid double traffic line and collided head-on with a car driven by Vicki Norman, 57.

Norman, a Hau'ula resident, was pinned inside her vehicle and died at the scene.

Wycklendt and another Marine passenger in the truck were uninjured.

City prosecutor's office executive assistant James Fulton said Wycklendt's truck was not speeding and no drugs or alcohol were involved.
