The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team won five medals, including golds by junior Amber Kaufman and sophomore TeRina Keenan, on the final day of the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships yesterday in Ruston, La.

For the second consecutive year, the Rainbow Wahine placed fifth overall with 74.5 points. Louisiana Tech captured its sixth consecutive WAC title, edging Day 3 leader Idaho, 194-175.5.

Keenan threw the discus 176 feet, 4 inches to win her first WAC medal.

Kaufman defended her high jump title for the third consecutive year clearing 6 feet. Teammate Sarah Saddleton, a sophomore, took silver (5-10.75).

Senior Thalia Amanakis captured silver in the 400-meter hurdles (59.67). Sophomore Emma MacCorquodale won a bronze in the hammer throw (177-8).

BASEBALL

HPU LOSES IN WEST REGIONAL FINALE, 9-4

UC San Diego scored seven runs in the fifth inning en route to a 9-4 victory over Hawai'i Pacific in the championship game of the NCAA Division II West Region Baseball Tournament yesterday at Compton, Calif.

The Sea Warriors finished their season 39-12. UC San Diego (51-7) advances to the double-elimination championship finals May 22 to 29 in Cary, North Carolina.

TENNIS

UH MEN OUSTED IN NCAA FIRST ROUND

No. 21 Pepperdine blanked No. 37 Hawai'i, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships yesterday at Taube Family Tennis Stadium in Stanford, Calif.

Pepperdine is 17-10. UH finished 12-8.

BYUH WOMEN FALL IN NCAA II FINALE

Top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State downed third-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 5-1, yesterday for its third consecutive NCAA Division II women's tennis national championship in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

BYUH finished 32-1; Armstrong Atlantic 33-0.
