HONOLULU — Gov. Linda Lingle's recorded voice is hitting telephones around Hawaii's 1st Congressional District, urging voters to support Republican Charles Djou.

Djou Campaign Manager Dylan Nonaka said Monday the automated "robocalls" with Lingle's voice began Friday. He is not disclosing how many calls are being made or characterize the type of voters who received them.

In the call, Lingle contends Djou's message of lower taxes and creating jobs is resonating.

Her recording contrasts with a robocall the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee used earlier this month with the voice of President Obama, which urges voters to choose "a Democrat."

Djou and two Democrats — Ed Case and Colleen Hanabusa — are the leading candidates for the post.
