The 28th Annual Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Foundation Hall of Honor awards ceremony on June 6 could just as well be called a "Banquet of Champions."

The Hall's latest class of 12 inductees — chosen yesterday afternoon after two days of meetings by a 15-person selection committee — represent individual and team state championships in football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, soccer and softball.

The 12 inductees are:

• Jarrett Arakawa, 'Iolani (football, basketball, baseball)

• Chaz Bajet, Kamehameha (football, basketball)

• Taylor Crabb, Punahou (volleyball, basketball)

• Jacob Edwards, Ka'ū (track and field, cross country, soccer)

• Ryan Ho, Kamehameha (football, soccer)

• Danna-Lynn Hooper, Moloka'i (basketball, volleyball, softball)

• Kamie Imai, Waiākea (basketball, softball, volleyball)

• Lawrence Lagafuaina, 'Aiea (football, track and field, basketball)

• Ku'uipo Nakoa, Hawai'i Prep (track and field, soccer, volleyball)

• Sarah Palmer, Hawai'i Baptist (volleyball)

• Courtney Senas, Mililani (softball, track and field, basketball)

• Andrew Skalman, 'Iolani (football, basketball, baseball)

They were chosen primarily on the basis of athletic achievement, but other factors considered include contributions to the team, versatility in sports, sportsmanship and dedication, character and behavior on and off the playing field, academic achievement, role in school activities outside sports, and involvement in the community.

The 12 inductees will be honored at an awards banquet June 6 at the Sheraton Waikīkī.

Arakawa, an Advertiser All-State selection in football and baseball, helped 'Iolani win three Division II state championships in football, a DI basketball state crown and an Interscholastic League of Honolulu title in baseball. He will play baseball at the University of Hawai'i next season.

Bajet, an All-State football player, was a key factor in Kamehameha winning state crowns in football and basketball. He plans to attend Pacific (Ore.) in the fall.

Crabb, an All-State volleyball player, helped Punahou win two state championships in volleyball. He will play volleyball at Long Beach State next season.

Edwards won six gold medals at the state track and field championships. He plans to run track for Wyoming next year.

Ho, The Advertiser's Co-Offensive Player of the Year in football, was a member of Kamehameha's state title football and soccer teams. He will play football at Duquesne next season.

Hooper, a two-time Maui Interscholastic League Division II Player of the Year in basketball, helped Moloka'i win a Division II state crown in girls basketball. She will play basketball at Brigham Young-Hawai'i next season.

Imai, an All-State basketball player as a sophomore and all-league player in softball and volleyball, was a significant contributor in Waiākea winning Big Island Interscholastic Federation championships in all three sports. She will play basketball at Utah State next season.

Lagafuaina, a Division II All-State selection in football, was a state champ in the shot put. He will play football at the University of Washington next season.

Nakoa, the BIIF's Division II Western Division Player of the Year in soccer, was a state champion in the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump. Her goal is to attend college and play soccer or run track in Hawai'i, Colorado or Wyoming.

Palmer, The Advertiser's State Player of the Year in volleyball, led Hawai'i Baptist to three straight Division II state titles. She will play volleyball at Texas next season.

Senas, The Advertiser's 2009 State Player of the Year in softball, helped Mililani's softball team win one state championship and three O'ahu Interscholastic Association crowns. She will play softball at Florida State next season.

Skalman, an Advertiser Division II All-State selection in football, was a key contributor in 'Iolani's three Division II football state titles and the Raiders' DI state title. He will play football at Washington (Mo.) University next season.

Each of the 12 inductees will receive a $2,000 college scholarship courtesy of Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

The Hall of Honor was established in 1982 by Nissan Hawai'i, in an effort to recognize 12 of the state's top high school senior athletes. The first class was inducted in 1983, and for the program's first 21 years, it was known as the Nissan Hawai'i High School Hall of Honor. The HHSAA Foundation took over the program in 2004 after Nissan Hawai'i was dissolved.
