Low hoops clinic set for June 19-20

The second annual Derrick Low-Hawai'i Raiders Basketball Clinic will be held June 19-20 at Kalani High School gym.
Heading the clinic will be Low, a former 'Iolani School and Washington State University star who is now playing professionally in Europe.
Also instructing will be former 'Iolani stars Kyle Pape, the 2005 All-State Player of the Year, and Kainoa Chu, the 2010 All-State co-Player of the Year, as well as Dennis Agena, founder of the Kalakaua Clinic.
The clinic is for boys and girls ages 8 to 17. Beginners sessions will be held 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. with advanced from noon to 3 p.m.
The cost is $75 and includes a sports bag, prizes, awards and an autograph session.

SWIM PROGRAM AT LA PIETRA LOW HOOPS CLINIC SET FOR JUNE 19-20
The La Pietra summer swimming program set for June 7 to July 19 is open to the general public at the school's campus.
The program for fourth- to 12th-graders is for intermediate and advanced swimmers.
Swim coaches heading the program will be Ramon Vrielink, a former national level swimmer for Canada, and Lianne Cameron, a former Olympian who is now coaching USA Synchronized Swimming.
There will be three time slots (10 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m.) and four sessions available (6 weeks/5 days a week; 6 weeks/3 days a week; 3 weeks/5 days; 3 weeks/3 days).
There also will be a three-week session on introduction of synchronized swimming.
Three-weeks sessions are from June 7-June 25 or June 28-July 19.

NORTH SHORE TRIATHLON DEADLINE
Deadline for early entries in the Bikefactory North Shore Triathlon is today.
The May 30 event will be held at Mokulē'ia Beach Park, starting at 6 a.m.
Applications are available at Bikefactory, Boca Hawaii and bike and running shops on O'ahu and online at Active.com and www.Hawaiiswim.com. For information, call 372-8884. Entries received after this date will cost an additional $10.

SPEARFISHING TOURNEY TOMORROW
The fifth annual Gene Higa Memorial Spearfishing Tournament will be held tomorrow at Puiki Beach Pavillion, Waialua.
Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. with weigh-in at 1 p.m., followed by an Iron Chef-type competition.
Kimi Werner, the 2008 Women's National Spearfishing champion, will defend her cooking championship against Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Inns and Dives" featured chef Nico Chaize, owner of Nico's at Pier 38.
The event is sponsored by Hawai'i Skin Diver Magazine, Primo Beer and Kai Clothing.
ASA 8-UNDER TOURNAMENT BEGINS
An eight-team Amateur Softball Association tournament for girls 8 and younger will be held this weekend at Central O'ahu Regional Park.
About 115 girls from around O'ahu will play at fields 1 and 2 starting at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday. The championship round begins at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
BASKETBALL CLINICS AND CAMPS
• NBA Sacramento Kings rookie Jon Brockman will be the special guest/coach for the Hawai'i Island Hoops' 2K10 College-Prep Basketball Camp, May 31 to June 4 at the Kekuaokalani Gym in Kailua, Kona.
Brockman, a 6-foot-7, 255-pound center-forward, was an All-American at the University of Washington in 2008-09 and was selected 38th overall in the NBA draft.
He also was the recipient of the Chip Hilton Player of the Year Award, conferred to the nation's top player demonstrating outstanding character, leadership, and athletic talent.

• Performance Basketball Clinics will hold two clinics, the first for shooting and the other for the summer, at Maryknoll's Clarence T.C. Ching Gymnasium.
PBC's shooting fundamentals clinic is May 29 and 31 for boys and girls 7 to 18. The first session is from 8 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and the second session from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A six-week clinic for boys and girls will be held on June 5, 12, 19, 26 July 3 and 10. The youth session (ages 7 to 11) will run from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with the boys (12 to 18) advanced skills session from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the girls advanced skills session from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
