Advertiser Staff

A Hawaii woman remained in critical condition today after she was injured Friday night in an auto accident in Indiana.

In all, four women were hurt in the crash when a car hit a utility pole west of Brookston, according to the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal & Courier.

Indiana State Police said a 2002 Oldsmobile was traveling north on White County Road 500 West when it left the road and struck a utility pole around 10:39 p.m.

Police identified the Hawaii woman as Liane M. Horiuchi, 23. She suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, the Journal & Courier reported.

She was listed in critical condition there this afternoon.

The other women were identified as Karina M. Venis, 20, of West Lafayette; Kayla Yates, 20, of Delphi; and Ashley R. Poe, 19, of West Lafayette.

Venis was taken to Clarian Arnett Hospital where she was listed in good condition.

Yates was taken to St. Elizabeth East Hospital with minor head injuries, police said.

Poe was treated at the scene, police said.

It was unclear who was driving the car, police said. However, drugs or alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash.
