Another arena proposal floated for Strip
Yet another sports/entertainment arena has been proposed for Las Vegas, this one right on the Strip on the vacant 27-acre parcel where Wet 'n' Wild used to be. The 20,000-seat Silver State Arena would cost $750 million and is the plan of the same Texas-based developer who attempted to build the world's tallest building at that location a couple of years ago. This makes four arena proposals now pending, including a project slated for downtown, one just east of center Strip, and a third at the far south end of the Strip. The process of choosing which one will get the necessary permissions to build is under way.
PLAYERS' BUFFET: On Mondays through Fridays in May, you can get a free lunch buffet at M Resort by earning 300 club points on slots or 850 on video poker. That equates to about an hour of play on 25-cent video poker, and you can earn a dinner buffet with a little more play. Many rate the M's buffets as Las Vegas' best.
STRIP DOGS: A little stand in front of the Riviera sells Chicago-style dogs for $3.75 and Polish dogs with chips for $5. The dogs come with mustard, sauteed onions and peppers at no extra charge. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
LATE NIGHT: From midnight to 6 a.m. in the Victorian Room at Bill's Gamblin' Hall, a bone-in ham and eggs is $2.99. And during the same hours, the Burger Joint Sports Bar at the Flamingo sells a good burger and fries for $2.
Q: I read that Steve Wynn's pay package totaled $8.39 million last year. Is that the most that any of the casino honchos makes?
Last year, Wynn's pay was more than the Venetian's Sheldon Adelson, who made $5.58 million, but well below that of MGM Mirage's Jim Murren, who had a $13.75 million year. CEO compensation changes from year to year, depending on the fortunes of each company.
