Apparent drowning victim may have been free diving
The 21-year-old free diver who died of an apparent drowning Saturday off Ka'ena Point has been identified as Cullen Santos, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office.
County lifeguards on personal watercraft, firefighters and the Coast Guard were searching when Santos' body was discovered at 1:30 p.m. on the Waialua side of Ka'ena Point.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at 1:57 p.m. Saturday.
He is believed to have been free diving with another man.
An autopsy was schduled to try to determine the cause of death.
