HONOLULU-The Sub-Zero and Wolf Student Cooking Demonstration and Tasting Event raised a total of $2,310 from ticket sales to benefit the 2009 Tom & Warren Matsuda Scholarship Culinary Competition student finalists. One hundred percent of the proceeds went towards finalists Meng-Ling Erik Kuo, Tate Nakano-Edwards and Rena Suzuki's scholarship funds to help further their education and culinary careers.
"We are proud to support these students in helping them attain a career in the culinary arts or to further their education," said Jean Nakanishi, Riggs Distributing Vice President. "Every year, we see these students doing great things and we wish them well in their future endeavors."
Celebrity Chef Roy Yamaguchi of Roy's Restaurants, who founded the Tom and Warren Matsuda Scholarship, made a special appearance at the demonstration and congratulated the finalists. At $30 per person, guests were treated to an appetizer by Meng-Ling Erik Kuo, salad by Tate Nakano Edwards, and entree by Rena Suzuki. Each student prepared the dishes in a cooking demonstration for the guests during each of three seatings.
