Ninety cadets from the successful Kalaeloa-based Youth ChalleNGe Academy visited the Hawai'i State Capitol on May 13th. Pictured with them is Senator Mike Gabbard, their district legislator, who addressed the group in the Senate Gallery.
Sen. Gabbard urged the cadets to work hard and push themselves to complete the final weeks of their program, which is 5 months long with no weekends or holidays off. Each of the at-risk teens has willingly taken advantage of the "second chance" opportunity they've been given to clean up their lives and earn a high school diploma.
The program's director, Mr. Rick Campbell, is hopeful that all 90 cadets will graduate on June 19th at their Pearl City commencement ceremony.
