A 50-year-old Hanamaulu man was found dead in his home yesterday after a four-hour standoff with Kauai police.

A Kauai County news release says the man called 911 at 11 a.m. and told police he had a firearm and didn't want anyone near his home.

Police responded and secured the area, blocking off the roadway near the intersection of Hoohuki and Kailewa roads. About 20 officers, including a crisis negotiator, were involved.

Shortly before 3, police entered the home and found the man's body.
